About Sitarist Dipanjan
Born in Kolkata, Dipanjan Guha is one of the brightest sitar players of the present times. Coming from the Senia Maihar gharana, he has been referred to as “the master of creating moods through melodies” through his unique style, which combines depth and serenity with brightness and colour. In his music, Dipanjan aims to embark upon and take his audience along in a journey in time and space, where many experiences and dreams dissolve into the present moment that can be felt with all the intensity of human senses.
A long-time disciple of Pandit Kushal Das, Dipanjan was introduced to the world of music by his mother Sukla Guha, a fine musician herself, at the age of ten and his training began under the guidance of Shri Sailen Das. He has since played extensively in India and abroad including USA, Europe and South Africa receiving a lot of appreciation from the audience and the critics. Dipanjan has also played for a few independent movies.
He has received intensive and rigorous training in advanced sitar techniques and the art of creating music under the affectionate guidance of Pandit Kushal Das. He also had the privilege of learning from great musicians like Late Pandit Ajoy Sinha Roy and briefly from Pandit Jatin Bhattacharjya.
A Computer Science and Engineering graduate from Jadavpur University, Dipanjan was adjudged the Best All-round Graduate of the university for his year.
